Italy has three main providers of fast charging stations: Enel X, Free To X and Ionity
For your electric car vacation in Italy, we recommend the EWE Go charging card. Here you can charge for 64ct/ kWh (as of June 2024). You can order a charging card to your home free of charge and it is billed by SEPA direct debit. It takes 2 minutes in the app. Well done. You can even get started without a card, the card is optional. But we would recommend it. See more about this in our main article on vacation trips with an electric car.
Enel X – App
The Enel X Way app is very complicated and does not work very smoothly on the iPhone. You need your ID card number to view the tariff overview in the app. If you then want to see a tariff, you get a message that there are no tariffs available in your selected country. I guess the app goes by location, impractical for vacation.
Enel X – Charging parks
Enel X is generally reliable. But watch out for the 150kW filter. In some cases, Enel still uses older, somewhat unreliable 50kW charging stations. This can lead to problems.
Free To X
The Free To X charging parks often use the reliable Alpitronic charging stations. So no worries here. Remember the 150kW filter in the ChargingTime app here too.
Ionity
Ionity can be recommended throughout Europe. Ionity’s current prices (pay attention to the country) are currently common in the market and with a monthly cancelable basic fee you can reduce the kWh prices. 57ct / kWh at €5.99 per month or 47ct/kWh at €11.99 per month, with the first month costing just €3.99 and €7.99 respectively. Filter on Ionity in the ChargingTime app and you can travel with Ionity without any problems.
